Rotten institutions, mediocre jobs and alienation. Poverty, a corrupt\u00a0system and the dark side of\u00a0gentrification. These are just\u00a0some of the subjects\u00a0that define the furious nucleus of <strong>Sleaford Mods.\u00a0<\/strong>A packed Manchester Academy and its mixed audience \u2013 between 50-year-old somethings and young lads \u2013 are rewarded\u00a0with a set of crude\u00a0frankness, combative\u00a0energy, and razor-sharp provocation.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qz4s9v5R0HQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The trappings of luxury can&#8217;t save you from the nail-biting boredom of repetitive brain injury<strong> (&#8220;TRC&#8221;)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We&#8217;ve heard the legacy of\u00a0<strong>Ray Davies<\/strong> in the 60s.\u00a0<strong>John Lydon<\/strong> in the 70s. The likes of <strong>Johh Cooper Clarke, Morrissey <\/strong>and<strong> Mark E. Smith<\/strong>\u00a0during\u00a0the 80s.\u00a0<strong>Sleaford Mods<\/strong>&#8216; ranter\u00a0<strong>Jason Williamson<\/strong>\u00a0belongs to this club of truly\u00a0outspoken English lyricists with enough brilliance and humour\u00a0to skillfully decode the\u00a0British idiosyncrasy. The main\u00a0difference with the previous chroniclers is that <strong>Sleaford Mods<\/strong>\u00a0erupted in this cursed age permeated\u00a0by\u00a0attention deficits due to technology and overloaded superfluous information, social snobbery, indifference, and emptiness. This is the\u00a0age of selfie sticks and X Factor &#8220;superstars&#8221;. The season\u00a0of fraudulent &#8220;artists&#8221;\u00a0and bands with dull lyrics as irrelevant\u00a0as your Snapchat account.\u00a0<strong>Sleaford Mods<\/strong> smartly capitalize on this and carelessly smash the rotten state of the music industry\u00a0<em>(I got an armful of decent tunes, mate<\/em><em>\/ But it&#8217;s all so fuckin&#8217; boring).<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This is the human race<br \/>\nUKIP and your disgrace<br \/>\nChopped heads on London streets<br \/>\nAll you zombies tweet, tweet, tweet <strong>(&#8220;Tweet Tweet Tweet&#8221;)<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">People\u00a0may rant about the lack of &#8220;musicianship&#8221; in the duo, but this\u00a0self-inflicted minimalism is an asset rather than a lack of creative input.\u00a0Their songbook may\u00a0fit into a full-piece band with punky\u00a0riffs and thick reverbs, but that&#8217;s the main difference between these kind of bands and <strong>Sleaford Mods<\/strong>: The Nottingham duo\u00a0does not allow redundant distractions and instead, demand your full attention.\u00a0Anybody\u00a0can play three chords and call themselves &#8220;punk&#8221;, &#8220;psych&#8221; or &#8220;garage&#8221;, but <strong>Sleaford Mods<\/strong> avoid common places and stereotypes\u00a0<em>(With the usual stereotypes that fall for the lip \/\u00a0I fuckin&#8217; hate rockers; fuck your rocker shit \/\u00a0Fuck your progressive side, sleeve of tattoos)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Can of Strongbow, I&#8217;m a mess<br \/>\nDesperately clutching onto a leaflet on depression<br \/>\nSupplied to me by the NHS <strong>(&#8220;Jobseeker&#8221;)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CFFWF1DnZKM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Live, the enraged verses are boosted\u00a0by <strong>Andrew Fearn<\/strong>&#8216;s minimalist machinery of prerecorded loops and rough beats that recall the gloomy post-punk sound.\u00a0The filthy growls of <strong>Jason\u00a0Williamson\u00a0<\/strong>fill the venue and his\u00a0stage presence is captivating,\u00a0authentic and furious.\u00a0&#8220;Jobseeker&#8221; and &#8220;Fizzy&#8221; \u2013 tales about the self-inflicted 9-5 crystal prisons \u2013 hit the stage and the audience\u00a0desperately chants in unison.
