Marginado y confundido en su natal Nueva York,\u00a0<strong>Burton<\/strong>\u00a0emigr\u00f3 a Londres donde se dio a conocer en 2004 por\u00a0<em>The Grey Album<\/em>; un mash-up entre\u00a0<strong>Jay-Z\u00a0<\/strong>y Los<strong>\u00a0Beatles<\/strong>\u00a0que lo llev\u00f3 a lo m\u00e1s alto del\u00a0<em>hype\u00a0<\/em>en Inglaterra y Estados Unidos. De ah\u00ed en adelante vino la fama, los elogios y colaboraciones; entre ellas:\u00a0<strong>Gorillaz, The Black Keys, Norah Jones, Beck\u00a0<\/strong>y un largo etc\u00e9tera que definen a<strong>\u00a0Danger Mouse<\/strong>\u00a0como uno de los productores m\u00e1s relevantes en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Parece que los d\u00faos son lo suyo como lo comprob\u00f3 hace ya ocho a\u00f1os con\u00a0<strong>Gnarls Barkley<\/strong>\u00a0en un proyecto apegado al soul y m\u00e1s rico musicalmente que el synth-pop para adolescentes en\u00a0<strong>Broken Bells,<\/strong>\u00a0dueto que comparte con\u00a0<strong>James Mercer<\/strong>, vocalista de<strong>\u00a0The Shins<\/strong>\u00a0y que presenta su segunda placa llamada banalmente,\u00a0<em>After The Disco<\/em>, la cual cuenta con la colaboraci\u00f3n de\u00a0<strong>The Angel City Light Orchestra<\/strong>\u00a0que proporciona arreglos de cuerdas en varios de los temas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">M\u00e1s all\u00e1 de que esta segunda entrega suena igual a la infinidad de grupos que hacen exactamente lo mismo, el problema con\u00a0<em>After The Disco<\/em>\u00a0es que es un \u00e1lbum plano, sin momentos que cautivan y con melod\u00edas clich\u00e9 en su g\u00e9nero. Imagina el soundtrack seudo bailable perfecto de adolescentes fresas con pose de rockstars en once temas que se arropan en el confort que les ofrece la ya gastada y hastiada f\u00f3rmula de sintetizador-guitarritas-coros del \u201cindie\u201d actual.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Entre sintetizadores y con un inicio que sorprendentemente nos remonta a\u00a0<strong>Kraftwerk<\/strong>\u00a0y que se transforma en un tema del new wave ochentero, \u201cA Perfect World\u201d nos da la \u00a0esperanza de una buena entrega en su primer minuto de duraci\u00f3n hasta que la voz de\u00a0<strong>James Mercer\u00a0<\/strong>entra y<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>marca el par\u00e1metro en la mayor\u00eda del disco. Y no porque sea un mal vocalista sino por qu\u00e9 sus participaciones son las que plagan y atiborran el disco de melod\u00edas que parecen estar tatuadas con el sonido \u201cindie\u201d que privan de autenticidad y un sonido propio al dueto. Ejemplos claros de esto: la que le da titulo al disco; su primer sencillo \u201cHolding on for life\u201d; \u201cThe changing lights\u201d que no podr\u00eda aspirar a m\u00e1s que convertirse en un lado B de\u00a0<strong>The Postal Service\u00a0<\/strong>y los penosos\u00a0<em>coritos-foca<\/em>\u00a0en \u201cNo matter what you\u00b4re told\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lo rescatable de\u00a0<em>After The Disco<\/em>\u00a0es cuando\u00a0<strong>Broken Bells<\/strong>\u00a0se aleja de la formula synth-pop y los coritos para dar paso a explorar g\u00e9neros como el R&amp;B y el folk en momentos m\u00e1s arm\u00f3nicos, reflexivos y donde la capacidad vocal de\u00a0<strong>James Mercer<\/strong>\u00a0luce mejor como en \u201cLeave it alone\u201d, donde\u00a0<strong>Mercer<\/strong>\u00a0ofrece su mejor interpretaci\u00f3n \u00a0vocal; la beatlesca \u201cLazy Wonderland\u201d; el soundtrack del adolescente azotado en \u201cThe angel and the fool\u201d o \u201cThe remains of rock and roll\u201d, uno de los temas m\u00e1s elaborados del disco y donde la inclusi\u00f3n de\u00a0<strong>The Angel City Light Orchestra\u00a0<\/strong>es plausible y no pasa desapercibida como en muchos otros tracks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Acept\u00e9moslo.\u00a0<strong>Brian Burton\u00a0<\/strong>y\u00a0<strong>James Mercer<\/strong>\u00a0ya no tienen 20 a\u00f1os.
