{"id":2207,"date":"2014-02-05T06:04:49","date_gmt":"2014-02-05T12:04:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thesenseofdoubt.com\/?p=2207"},"modified":"2014-06-11T20:23:10","modified_gmt":"2014-06-11T19:23:10","slug":"black-rebel-motorcycle-club-dead-combo-electric-ballroom-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/box2305.temp.domains\/~thesent5\/black-rebel-motorcycle-club-dead-combo-electric-ballroom-london\/","title":{"rendered":"Black Rebel Motorcycle Club &#038; Dead Combo @Electric Ballroom, London"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Black Rebel Motorcycle Club &amp; Dead Combo @Electric Ballroom, London<\/h2>\n<h5>Alejandro De Luna<\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Last night, the NME Awards sold out gig at the legendary Electric Ballroom in Camden brought one of the best bands in the last 15 years accompanied by a synth-punk guitar-driven NYC duo of dissonant madness.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>DEAD COMBO<\/b><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The electro-punk duo, <b>Dead Combo,<\/b> originally from Finland but settled in New York (not to be confused with the Portuguese folk band), brought a sound reminiscent of <b>Suicide\u00b4s <\/b>electro-punk with <b>The Stooges, Ron Asheton\u00b4s<\/b> guitar-like solos;<b> The Jesus And Mary Chain\u00b4s <\/b>claustrophobic noise;<b> Spacemen 3\u00b4s<\/b> cacophony and lots of attitude that shouted out loud: \u201cI don\u00b4t give a fuck if you like this or not.&#8221;<\/p>\n<pre><code><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"166\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fsoundcloud.com%2Fdeadcombonyc&width=false&height=false&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&visual=false&show_comments=false&color=false&show_user=false&show_reposts=false\"><\/iframe><\/code><\/pre>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With a low profile in music media and almost 10 years since their debut album; Finnish punks <b>Harri Kupiainen <\/b>and<b> Nuutti Kataja<\/b> fueled in with guitars and drum machines, definitely sound raw and uncompromised, but there is a hint of repetition and monotony in his live set that fails to captivate the audience.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1140\" height=\"855\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Obtswn0KIEc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB<\/b><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If we go back to 2000 when<b> BRMC<\/b> recorded their self-titled debut, probably you will be surprised on how long does their journey has been already. The songs in<b> BRMC\u00b4s<\/b> first delivery sounded (and they still do) like a fresh raw rock &#8216;n&#8217; roll tribute and despite seven brilliant full-length albums and tons of imitations nowadays, they are still among the greatest dirty rock &#8216;n&#8217; roll revivalists out there.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bass oriented \u201cHate The Taste\u201d and the drugged choruses from \u201cBeat The Devil\u00b4s Tattoo\u201d opened <b>BRMC<\/b> psychedelic noise-driven rock n\u00b4roll set followed by <b>Robert Levon Been<\/b> father\u00b4s tribute (ex frontman in <b>The Call<\/b>) with a noisy cover of \u201cLet The Day Begin\u201d \u2013 first single from their last album, <i>Specter At The Feast <\/i>(2013.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>BRMC\u00b4s <\/b>best moment in the night came early with a powerful selection of songs starting with the classic-to-be,\u201cRival\u201d, and a selection of vintages including the dark folk of \u201cAin\u00b4t No Easy Way\u201d, the unbeatable \u201cBerlin\u201d and the psychedelic and quintessential British sound-like, \u201cRifles\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The gig continued and it brought the passages from \u201c666 conducer\u201d; the experimental \u201cAmerican X\u201d and \u201cRed Eyes And Tears\u201d. Other highlights included the <b>Stooges<\/b>-like, \u201cSix Barrell Shotgun\u201d and the brutal riff and unhinged drums in \u201cConscience Killer\u201d. As an encore, an acoustic intimate version of \u201cShuffle Your Feet\u201d and the violent <b>BRMC\u00b4s <\/b>true classic, \u201cWhatever Happened To My Rock N\u00b4Roll (Punk Song)\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There is a sense of classic hard rock in<b> BRMC<\/b> songs accompanied by shoegaze; psychedelic passages and Detroit\u00b4s proto-punk sound reminiscent of <b>Iggy\u00b4s<\/b> most difficult but brilliant period. On top of that, the garage; the blues; the feedback, the distortion, the darkness and the hippie-like San Francisco vibe in songs like \u201cSpread Your Love&#8221;\u00a0make of <b>BRMC\u00a0<\/b>a colossal explosion on stage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Is all out there; the talent of <b>Peter Hayes\u00b4s<\/b> dark and crude guitar riffs, <b>Robert Levon Been\u00b4s<\/b> distorted bass and <b>Leah Shapiro\u00b4s<\/b> constant beating on drums. Whatever happened to your rock n\u00b4 roll but <b>BRMC <\/b>is still one of the greatest bands from the last 15 years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1140\"
