The set is raw and full of anger. Minimalist and brutal. If Slaves<\/a><\/strong>, “the opening band” as described by Williamson offered\u00a0a strong demonstration insurgent\u00a0power of onstage, Sleaford Mods<\/strong> is what some people would call\u00a0“the\u00a0real thing.” No masks or pretension here. No hype. Just pure anti establishment. Just rage\u00a0and savage words\u00a0coming out of the speakers at the John Peel stage. John Peel would be proud.<\/p>\n

Glastonbury is\u00a0not just about the bands that you already know: the massive stars, legends, consolidated bands, rock and electronic heroes and stadium-like sing-alongs.\u00a0I\u00b4ll keep in my memories\u00a0Patti Smith’s<\/strong> enraged\u00a0finale while\u00a0destroying her guitar\u00a0strings (and vocal chords);\u00a0The Super Furry Animals’<\/strong> psychedelic trip; \u00a0Samuel Herring (Future Islands)<\/strong>\u00a0could be your boring uncle or one of the best frontmans in current times; Mot\u00f6rhead’s<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>testimony of how to pay tribute to a pile of Marshalls;\u00a0Rainy Boy Sleep’s<\/strong> folky passages; and yes, “The Who” –\u00a0<\/strong>even without the irreplaceable\u00a0original rhythm section (fuck you purists). And like everyone else, I\u00b4ve missed many others: The Fall <\/strong>with\u00a0Mark E. Smith<\/strong> pissing his pants, Lulu, John Cooper Clarke,\u00a0Suede, Fat White Family’s <\/strong>obscene gig at 4am; Spiritualized; Goat; Chemical Brothers,<\/strong> and a big etcetera. But that\u00b4s the beauty of Glastonbury: You can\u00b4t have everything, but just a glance, an ephemeral\u00a0moment of pleasure that disappears when you are back to reality after living 4 days in a dream field.<\/p>\n
